    Collective intelligence in self-organized industrial cyber-physical systems

    Cyber-physical systems (CPS) play an important role in the implementation of new Industry 4.0 solutions, acting as the backbone infrastructure to host distributed intelligence capabilities and promote the collective intelligence that emerges from the interactions among individuals. This collective intelligence concept provides an alternative way to design complex systems with several benefits, such as modularity, flexibility, robustness, and reconfigurability to condition changes, but it also presents several challenges to be managed (e.g., non-linearity, self-organization, and myopia). With this in mind, this paper discusses the factors that characterize collective intelligence, particularly that associated with industrial CPS, analyzing the enabling concepts, technologies, and application sectors, and providing an illustrative example of its application in an automotive assembly line. The main contribution of the paper focuses on a comprehensive review and analysis of the main aspects, challenges, and research opportunities to be considered for implementing collective intelligence in industrial CPS. The identified challenges are clustered according to five different categories, namely decentralization, emergency, intelligent machines and products, infrastructures and methods, and human integration and ethics. Although the research indicates some potential benefits of using collective intelligence to achieve the desired levels of autonomy and dynamic adaptation of industrial CPS, such approaches are still in the early stages, with perspectives to increase in the coming years.     A fuzzy logic recommendation system to support the design of cloud-edge data analysis in cyber-physical systems

    The ongoing 4th industrial revolution is characterized by the digitization of industrial environments, mainly based on the use of Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Regarding AI, although data analysis has shown to be a key enabler of industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) in the development of smart machines and products, the traditional Cloud-centric solutions are not suitable to attend the data and time-sensitive requirements. Complementary to Cloud, Edge Computing has been adopted to enable the data processing capabilities at or close to the physical components. However, defining which data analysis tasks should be deployed on Cloud and Edge computational layers is not straightforward. This work proposes a framework to guide engineers during the design phase to determine the best way to distribute the data analysis capabilities among computational layers, contributing for a lesser ad-hoc design of distributed data analysis in industrial CPS. Besides defining the guidelines to identify the data analysis requirements, the core contribution relies on a Fuzzy Logic recommendation system for suggesting the most suitable layer to deploy a given data analysis task.     Development of a smart electric motor testbed for Internet of things and big data technologies

    Smart devices and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are becoming each day more common. At the same time, besides the exponentially increasing demand to analyze the produced data, there is an evolving trend to perform the data analysis closer to the data sources, particularly at the Fog and Edge levels. In this sense, the development of testbeds that can, e.g., simulate smart devices in IoT environments, are important to explore and develop the technologies to enable the complete realization of such IoT concepts. This paper describes the digitization of an electric motor, through the incorporation of sensing and an analytical computational environment, towards the development of a testbed for IoT and Big Data technologies. The smart electric motor testbed provides real-time data streams, enabling a continuous monitoring of its operation along all the device life-cycle through advanced data analytics.     O tema desse artigo é voltado para as polí­ticas de ressocialização no sistema prisional. Investigou-se o seguinte problema: "Qual a situação atual, suas principais limitações e os desafios?". Cogitou-se a seguinte hipótese "as polí­ticas de ressocialização do apenado no sistema prisional brasileiro tendem ao colapso". O objetivo geral é apresentar a situação atual, as limitações e os desafios das polí­ticas de ressocialização no sistema prisional brasileiro. Os objetivos especí­ficos são "apontar, na atualidade, quem é responsável pela gestão dos sistemas prisionais" e "apresentar os modelos atuais de ressocialização". Este trabalho tem importância em uma perspectiva individual devido ao questionamento social sobre o tema. Para a ciência, esta pesquisa se mostra útil em expor de modo sistemático as polí­ticas de ressocialização no sistema prisional. Este assunto cresce de importância para a sociedade brasileira, face a esta crise, aparentemente sem solução. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa teórica de três meses.  The theme of this article is focused on re-socialization policies in the prison system. The following problem was investigated: What is the current situation, its main limitations and challenges? The following hypothesis was considered "the policies of re-socialization of the inmate in the Brazilian prison system tend to colapse". The general objective is to present the current situation, the limitations and the challenges of re-socialization policies in the Brazilian prison system. The specific objectives are "to point out, at present, who is responsible for the management of prison systems" and "present the current models of resocialization". This work is important in an individual perspective due to the social questioning on the topic. For science, this research is useful in systematically exposing the policies of re-socialization in the prison system. This issue grows in importance for Brazilian society, in the face of this crisis, apparently without solution. It is a qualitative theoretical research of three months

    Hands-on learning modules for upskilling in industry 4.0 technologies

    The Industry 4.0 (I4.0) advent is re-shaping the way systems and processes operate by considering Cyber- Physical Systems combined with a plethora of emergent Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), e.g., Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Intelligent Robotics. However, the emergence of such disruptive technologies strongly establishes a demand for upskilling and requalification of active professionals and young undergraduate students. This means that the wide adoption of the 14.0 systems and related tech-nologies is dependent on the efficient implementation of lifelong learning and training initiatives that address these challenges. Having this in mind, this paper describes the implementation of a series of short learning modules and hackathons that relies on a strong hands-on practical experimentation, regarding the upskilling in emergent ICT technologies, particularly focusing on IoT, mobile robotics and Multi-agent Systems. The preliminary efforts contributed to qualify undergraduate students and active professionals in disruptive ICT, with the attendees' feedback illustrating the importance of these kind of short and hands-on learning modules to address towards the continuous demands associated to the diaital transformation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    [ES] El taller sobre Tecnologías Disruptivas de la Información y la Comunicación para la Innovación y la Transformación Digital, organizado en el ámbito del proyecto DISRUPTIVE (disruptive.usal.es) y celebrado el 12 de septiembre de 2022 en Valladolid, tiene como objetivo debatir sobre los problemas, retos y beneficios del uso de tecnologías digitales disruptivas, a saber, Internet de las Cosas, Big data, computación en la nube, sistemas multiagente, aprendizaje automático, realidad virtual y aumentada y robótica colaborativa, para apoyar la transformación digital en curso en la sociedad. El programa del taller incluyó 6 papers técnicos aceptados, 2 charlas de invitados y una sesión de networking. Este volumen contiene 6 de las ponencias presentadas en el taller sobre Tecnologías Disruptivas de la Información y la Comunicación para la Innovación y la Transformación Digital.     A machine learning approach for collaborative robot smart manufacturing inspection for quality control systems1-10

    The 4th industrial revolution promotes the automatic inspection of all products towards a zero-defect and high-quality manufacturing. In this context, collaborative robotics, where humans and machines share the same space, comprises a suitable approach that allows combining the accuracy of a robot and the ability and flexibility of a human. This paper describes an innovative approach that uses a collaborative robot to support the smart inspection and corrective actions for quality control systems in the manufacturing process, complemented by an intelligent system that learns and adapts its behavior according to the inspected parts. This intelligent system that implements the reinforcement learning algorithm makes the approach more robust once it can learn and be adapted to the trajectory. In the preliminary experiments, it was used a UR3 robot equipped with a Force-Torque sensor that was trained to perform a path regarding a product quality inspection task. © 2020 The Authors.     [ES] El intercambio de ideas entre científicos y técnicos, tanto del ámbito académico como empresarial, es fundamental para facilitar el desarrollo de sistemas que puedan satisfacer las demandas de la sociedad actual. La transferencia de tecnología en este campo sigue siendo un reto y, por ello, este tipo de aportaciones se consideran de forma destacada en esta recopilación. Este libro trae debates y publicaciones sobre el desarrollo de técnicas innovadoras de problemas complejos de IoT. El programa técnico se centra tanto en la alta calidad como en la diversidad, con contribuciones en áreas de investigación bien establecidas y en evolución. Específicamente, 10 capítulos fueron presentados a este libro. Los editores alentaron y agradecieron particularmente las contribuciones sobre IA y computación distribuida en aplicaciones de IoT.
